John Robert Shadle
August 6, 1949 - September 15, 2006

This online memorial was created in loving memory of John "Shades" Shadle, whose life story is told throughout this memorial website. John Robert Shadle, August 6, 1949 - September 15, 2006. John R. Shadle of Phoenix, AZ was born August 6, 1949 in York, Pennsylvania. He passed away, peacefully, at his home on Friday, September 15, 2006, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was the son of the late Judge Robert I. Shadle and Kathryn Yost Shadle. Grandfather to the late Tacoma Shadle. Mr. Shadle was President and Owner of Sports Engineering, Inc. which supplies engineered radio broadcasts for the Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Coyotes, Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks, ASU Sports and ESPN Radio. During his long and respected career, he served as Director of Engineering/Chief Engineer for the following Broadcast Radio Stations: KTAR-AM, KKLT-FM, KMVP-AM, KKFR-FM, KMXP-FM, KZZP-FM, KGLQ-FM, KHTC-FM, KIDR-AM, KRBE- FM/AM, WIFE-AM, WMCA-AM, WWWE-AM, WDOK-FM, WSBA- AM/FM.

He also held the positions of: Vice Chairman of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) - Phoenix Chapter, Certification & Chapter Chairman of the SBE - New York City and Cleveland Sec'y/Treasurer - Arizona Frequency Coordinating Committee News Director - WSBA-FM / Staff Announcer - WSBA-AM - York, Pennsylvania. During the Vietnam War, he served aboard the U.S. Navy submarine U.S.S. Georgefish as a Radioman Second Class.

John is survived by his loving wife Janet; brother Thomas, sister-in-law Sherry, York, PA; sons Michael and Robert, grandchildren Casandra, Candice, Forrest, Stormie, Zoey; four stepchildren and four stepgrandchildren.

A Celebration of Life memorial service was held on Monday, September 18 at 6pm with visitation from 5pm to 5:30pm at the Ascension Lutheran Church in the Town of Paradise Valley, AZ - 7100 N. Mockingbird Lane. Burial took place at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in York, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's name could go to: The American Cancer Society, Hospice of the Valley, St. Joseph's Hospital/Barrow Neurological Institute or AZ Friends of Animal Care & Control "No-Kill" Animal Shelter P.O. Box 80739, Phoenix, AZ 85060-0739.
